YouTube Logos:Administrators
Different users have access to different functions of the site. While anyone can do most things on the site, including reading and editing, administrators can access a few additional functions.
Administrator abilities
These additional functions include:
- Deleting and undeleting pages, page histories, and uploaded files.
- Locking (protecting) a page so it cannot be edited or renamed by users without admin rights or autoconfirmed status.
- Blocking IP addresses or user names from editing; and very quick "rollback" of undesirable edits.
- Editing the interface by changing system messages and skins.
Bureaucrat abilities
A bureaucrat can make other users into bureaucrats or administrators on their own wiki.
Bureaucrats can also give users the ability to "rollback" edits not made in good faith.
Staff
ShoutWiki staff members have full access to all wikis in the ShoutWiki network. They will be shown in Special:Listusers/staff on any wiki. Please use Special:Contact to contact ShoutWiki staff.
Who are this wiki's administrators?
This wiki's administrators are listed above. If an administrator's username is linked in a page, it will appear green (unless the username has special characters in it).
How do I use administrator powers?
See Help:Administrators' how-to guide for a guide on using admin functions.
Becoming an administrator/bureaucrat
To request to become an administrator, go to YouTube Logos:Requests for adminship.
If you are an administrator who would like bureaucracy, contact a bureaucrat from the list above on their message wall. Bureaucrats will take a full week to make a decision.
What can administrators not do?
Administrators should not use their administrator powers to settle editing disputes; for example, to lock a page on a version he or she prefers in an editing dispute that isn't vandalism. Administrator powers should be used to help keep the wiki clear of vandalism, spam, and users who make malicious edits, but not for simple disagreements between users acting in good faith. Ideally an administrator should not be considered "in charge". The ideal admin is just someone who is trusted to have a few extra buttons and to use them for the benefit of the ShoutWiki community.
Demotion
Being an administrator is a big responsibility. There are several reasons why an administrator may be demoted. If an administrator commits any abuse of power or any questionable act, then this act will be investigated and if necessary, the user will be demoted, along with a block for an allotted time depending on the severity of the act.
At times, it has become apparent that over time, an administrator may lose interest in the wiki. If an administrator is inactive for three months following their latest edit, then their rights will be removed.
Only ShoutWiki staff are able to remove bureaucratic powers, therefore it is required that an open discussion involving any active users who wish to participate be held in the forums to demote a bureaucrat. When demoting a regular administrator, no public discussion is required and that will be decided privately amongst the administration team.
If a former administrator begins to start editing again following their removal of rights and wishes for their rights back, then that user can make another request after six months of their demotion at YouTube Logos:Requests for adminship.
